Extracting text from a photo or screenshot — a scanned note, a sign, a book page — without retyping it by hand. This uses real OCR (optical character recognition) running in your browser, no upload required. Reads Bengali (বাংলা) and English by default, so it works on Bangla text out of the box.

Good to know

  • Works best on clear, well-lit, horizontal text
  • Handwriting recognition is far less reliable than printed text
  • Stylized, embossed, or decorative fonts (like on cards or signage) are harder to read accurately than plain printed text
  • Dense tables with many small columns, or colored/highlighted table cells, are the hardest case for this tool — expect occasional row misalignment or character mistakes on this kind of content specifically
  • Pick the right language above for non-English text — English is selected by default and won't read other scripts correctly
  • First run in a language downloads a small language file, then caches it in your browser

FAQ

Why is the text extraction not perfect?

OCR accuracy depends heavily on image clarity, lighting, and font. Blurry, angled, or low-contrast photos will produce more errors than a clean scan.

Does this work on handwriting?

It can attempt handwriting, but accuracy is much lower than for printed or typed text.

Is my image sent anywhere for processing?

Yes, by default — each image is sent to a cloud OCR service for the most accurate result. If you'd rather it stayed entirely in your browser, use the "Try on-device OCR instead" option after extracting, or if the cloud service is briefly unavailable, the tool automatically falls back to reading it on-device.

Can this read Bangla (Bengali) text?

Yes — Bengali and English are both enabled by default, so photos or screenshots with Bangla text are read automatically without changing any setting.

Can I translate the extracted text?

Yes — after extraction, click Translate and pick a target language from 44 supported languages. Translation is a separate step that sends the extracted text (not your image) to a translation service; the original extracted text stays visible alongside the translation so you can check it against the source.

Does this work on Mac, Windows, or my phone?

Yes — it runs in any modern browser on Mac, Windows, Chromebook, iPhone, or Android. No app or software to install.
